Use NOAA chart #13229, 13230 and 13232 for safe passage into Apponagansett Bay. Use tide tables for Newport.  High tide at Apponagansett Bay is 25 minutes later; low tide is 33 minutes later. Multiply by 1.1 for height at high or low water.  Mean tidal range is 3.7 feet.  The entrance to Apponagansett Bay is 5nm from the hurricane barrier at New Bedford Harbor, 12.4nm from Cuttyhunk Island, and 14.5nm from Westport Harbor.  Navigating into Padanaram is straightforward as long as you follow the markers.  Approaches to the bay are from the south and east.  Neither passage is very difficult, but you should pay close attention to the rocks and ledges that dot the waters about a mile south of the South Dartmouth (Padanaram) shore.  The current in this part of Buzzards Bay is slight, and the prevailing southwesters make for an easy sail up the bay.

CAUTION: The buoys in this area are not just guides-they mark navigational hazards.  Read your chart carefully and give all buoys plenty of room. Give us a shout on channel 9 if you need help, and we will talk you in.
